4 C's of Diamonds
Carat
Let's start with the easiest of the C's to explain. Carat is the physical weight of the stone. The bigger the carat, the bigger the stone.
Cut
Cut does not mean the shape of stone you are looking for like many believe. Diamonds are given a cut grade that determines how well the facets are cut to produce the most fire. Each of the diamond shapes are subject to different cut grade scales to specifically fit that shapes ideal sparkle. Cut is probably the most overlooked of the diamond criteria, but it can make all the difference in the brilliance or dullness of a diamond.
Color
The color of a diamond is very important. From the brightest whites to the deepest blacks and every color in between color has a lot to do with the desirability and cost of the stone. With white diamonds, typical of enagament rings, color rating starts at the letter D. D sybolizes that the stone is colorless and the rating of the color continues down the alphabet becoming more yellow or brown tone as you move further from a D grade.
That being said diamonds with color grades in the higher section of the scale look nice and bright white too don't think you need to look for a diamond color D in order to have a beautiful white stone.
Clarity
The clarity of a diamond is crucial to a clean clear stone.
